We hosted our first Lena Clark Beauty private makeup lesson of the year this past weekend and it was kinda litty! Our client Jazmine came in with her mom and sister and learned a basic every day makeup application plus how to quickly update their basic look for the evening.
Students learned my signature 5 Minute Face (maybe 7 minutes with lashes). This is the perfect makeup look if you only have a few minutes to get ready, or don’t want to look over done for work, or a job interview, or maybe a trip to the grocery store. In my case, I usually have my 14 year old son standing there complaining about how I don’t NEED makeup (NEWS FLASH: no one does, I don’t NEED sparkly nail polish either, but I like it!), or that I’m taking too long. So I developed a fool proof method to make the biggest impact in your look with the least amount of time.
The 5 Minute Face was their absolute FAVORITE part of the lesson. Oh, and guess what? I was the model for the 5 Minute Face makeup demo! Yep, I arrived to class without makeup and brought in my personal makeup kit (which totally sucks) and tools (which also suck!). I absolutely NEVER work on myself from my professional kit. I am BIG on sanitation and I don’t want to have to be sanitary when I’m doing my own makeup. I enjoy being my own model during lessons with everyday women because it allow students to view in real live action the way I hold, position, and use the same tools and products they will need to use on themselves – these things are different when working on a client/model. It’s kinda like a live YouTube tutorial while also getting hands-on guidance and feedback.
Model/client, Alexis, was the bees knees! She booked a NYE makeup appointment and casually mentioned she would be open to modeling for me if I ever needed one. I asked if she was available that Saturday and the rest is history! During our lesson, we went over a detailed full makeup application from start to finish. Alexis was the perfect model for our full makeup demo. Students were able to learn how to address common concerns (hyperpigmentation, acne, texture, etc.) while completing a full makeup look with lashes.
Not only did Alexis volunteer to be my model, she let me know on the low that I had makeup on my teeth (I later showed the students a trick to fix this), was super patient through my nervous anxiety, AND wore this dope hoodie to the lesson. “I STILL BELIEVE IN MARRIAGE” The wife, bridal makeup artist, and hopeless romantic in me completely approves this message! Plus, Alexis is gorgeous, has good energy, and is so photogenic. I had no idea she knew how to work the camera the way she did. When the camera came out she went into straight Top Model mode.
I totally enjoyed this lesson and plan to do more going forward. If you’re interested in private 1:1 or private group lesson, email me and maybe we can set something up.
