This post is for all of my brides hoping to slim down before their wedding, and for all the ladies just looking to live a healthier lifestyle. I actually fall into both groups. I made a commitment to myself to take a different fitness class every month. My first month I did Pure Barre (River North location).
What is Pure Barre?
“As long as you can hold a ballet barre, you can do Pure Barre.”
Pure Barre is extremely effective in a short amount of time – provided you maintain healthy eating habits. The movements, while simple, are challenging because you are isolating and working smaller and larger muscle groups. In addition to using your own body weight you also have the option to add 2 or 3 lb. weights for certain parts of the class.
What can you expect in a Pure Barre Class?
I researched like a madwoman before my first class but still found myself unprepared. I’ve done Pilates in the past so I assumed Pure Barre would be a piece of cake. The class uses some basic Pilates movements at a much faster pace. I was literally already sweating and down half a bottle of water from the warm up.
After my first class I had to really push myself to go back. My legs literally felt like noodles when I walked and I was extremely sore for the next few days. However, my recovery time between classes was shorter after each subsequent class.
There are standard movements and techniques that are a part of the Pure Barre program, but each instructor bring their own nuances – which was a big plus for me since I was never bored. They also all speak in the same relaxed soothing voice used to encourage a woman through childbirth. I was honestly never eager to go, but ALWAYS felt better (more energized and in a better overall mood) when I left class.
It is recommended that you go at least 2x per week and you should generally start to see changes in your body by around the 10th class. I went to class 3x a week for a month (about 11 classes total).
I am very pleased with my results. I’m still the same dress size but my thighs are no longer starting forest fires when I walk. I mean seriously, these babies could eat through a pair of jeans in a day. I have also noticed a nice [fiancé approved] lift in my glutes! Yay!
There are membership packages that fit every lifestyle and budget. They also have specials for first time clients, brides to be, and new mommies!
If you try Pure Barre as a part of your fitness journey make sure to tell them I sent you and be sure to come tell me all about your experience.
